Three characterful bases for exploring the “Paradise of Wales”
Montgomeryshire is known as “The Paradise of Wales”, and these charming holiday cottages are located at the very heart of that paradise.
The area is beautiful, ranging from fertile farm land in the valleys to mountainous regions with lakes and forests. For visitors with time to walk and explore, the countryside is perfection. The nearby Hafren Forest, from which the Rivers Hafren (Severn), Wye and Rheidol rise, has many signposted walks and bounds the Clywedog Dam, home to sailing, fishing and nature trails.
Further south near Rhayader is the home of the Red Kite. Here, there are nature walks from the Elan Valley visitors centre and a farm where, in winter, visitors can see the Red Kites feed.
For the more active visitor there are two local golf courses, a driving range, pony and quad trekking, clay pigeon shooting and a sports centre with facilities for badminton, squash, swimming and mountain biking.
The two countryside cottages — Lower Dolgenau (The Cottage) and Dolgenau Hir (The Barn) — are set in secluded and tranquil countryside.
The nearest town, Llanidloes (6 miles), has a range of pubs, local shops, a pharmacy and two supermarkets. Newtown, the largest town in Mid Wales, can be reached by car within 20 minutes.
Town Cottage is located in Llanidloes itself, ideal if you like to stroll to shops, restaurants and the riverside walk.
